GOP Schism?

Much has been made about the apparent split in the Tennessee Republican party brought about by the number of quality contenders running to replace Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R). In the Republican primary, the campaign of moderate former Chattanooga mayor Bob Corker has the difficult task of painting critics as “right wing extremists” while at the same time trying to appeal to the Republican base in a state that continues to trend conservative. The campaigns of former congressmen Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary are faced with the task of convincing conservatives they’re the strongest candidate to keep Frist’s seat in Republican hands. The contentious primary has led to an interesting discussion in the blogosphere about who we are as a Republican party in Tennessee.
