Bloggers Profiled by AdAge

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Beth over at AdAge.com puts together a nice collection of data on bloggers. (scroll to the bottom to download a pdf with pie charts) As a 30 year old, English speaking Latino, Mac owning, non-everyday flosser, US male, I appear to fall squarely in the middle. (something I have never done in a survey)

Everybody wants to put people into a group – the problem with bloggers is that they are more defined by their conversations than by their attributes. Find out what they are talking about and you will find out about them. (seems too easy to be true)

Blog like an Egyptian - and go to jail

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

A 22-year-old Egyptian blogger, Abdel Kareem Nabil, has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for criticizing Islam, President Hosni Mubarak, and the university Al-Azhar. His posts were centered around the restriction of free speech – interesting irony. Most of us take it for granted that we can say what we want on our blogs and not have an oppressive government punish us for our thoughts. I wonder if there will be enough public outcry around the world to release this guy.

If your best friend jumped off a bridge would you do that too???

Some of my friends are jumping into the blog thing. I think its awesome and scary all at the same time. Cool that we can all start these conversations and yet I wonder how long before a critical mass of conversation is reached on the web. Or is there even a ceiling?
Maybe the internet can support infinite number of conversations started by everyone who has access, time, and something to say (which I believe that everyone is an expert on something—so say it).

So here are my friends… the experts.

Josh at saucerocket—a great designer and incredible character artist (he is also responsible for my global microbrand mark—the joseface)

Bob at bobonthat—a consultant and hospitality-marketing guru

Kelly at globalnomads—Family friend since we were kids and now living and blogging in Doha, Qatar

Tim at f1rststory—Geek Entrepreneur, snowboarder, and old school skater dude

Joe at sandstory—my dad who I have talked about in a previous post and is launching a blog on his sand art (site will be up first week of March)

Jim at reallyjazzed—Musician, carpenter, and all around creative guy (he would make a great life coach – hint hint)

Kyle at digital fridge—Videographer, digital media guy, and key player in the vidcasting mashup with lockjawradio.com

And more everyday…

Dont forget the GeekSouth dinner Tuesday Feb 28th 7pm.

Bloggers becoming candidates?

Friday, February 17th, 2006

From Michael Silence

Rob Huddleston is considering a bid for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Bill Jenkins, R-Rogersville.

John Norris Brown reminds us that Bob Krumm is eyeing a run for the state House.

And Krumm notes another blogger possibly running for Jenkins’ seat.

Please contact me with any other questions at jose(at)thinkjose.com

Thanks again to Amanda at the TRI , Lee at Milligan , and Bob with General Morgan Inn for having us in to speak.

6 Students blogging from Torino

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

From Digital Fridge
Coca-Cola has sent 6 student journalists from all around the world to Torino. The idea allows the students to share firsthand stories that would never otherwise be told. The reports give a more realistic view of what the olympics are like for a typical spectator. The blog site offers pictures from the students as well.
