Internal Bluetooth ?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

There is a part of me that thinks this is a good idea.
If it saves lives, OK but all this past and present discussion about implanting this chip or that chip, makes me a bit nervous.
What about the “Mark of the Beast”
Besides, I have bluetooth downstairs in the Lab and I can not get the adapter to always connect to the adapter in the printer(more on that soon).
The bluetooth ear piece I where from Apple, connecting to my iphone does not always connect the 1st try, with the iphone in my right hand, one foot from the ear piece.
I will say, that downstairs i have a wireless network using a Apple Airport Express Hub and if this technology is going to advance. Please let Apple develop this tech, Apple does it all right !
In case you are thinking, what the heck is he talking about?

Check your cell phone strength

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

I did not know you could do this, so try it.
Thanks to Kim Komando Newsletter for this tip:( In the context of the iphone)

The iPhone certainly is slick. I like the full-sized Web browser. There’s also a large, bright screen for viewing pictures. And, of course, it can play music from iTunes.

But, as you mention, cellular reception can be spotty. For some people, this is a deal breaker. So, prospective buyers should check up on the reception. This calls for a field service test.

Of course, AT&T’s coverage will vary in different areas. So, I wouldn’t just try out the phone in the store. Check elsewhere. Do the tests where you anticipate using the phone the most.

For example, do one at work and several areas at home. You may also want to do tests along frequently driven routes. (Do me a favor and park first!)

You will have to buy an iPhone to do the tests. You have 30 days to return it if reception is subpar.

A field service test isn’t difficult. But it is impossible unless you know code that unlocks the feature.

First, bring up the keypad in the iPhone’s phone application. Enter the following exactly (minus quotes): “*3001#12345#*.” Then, press Call.

The Field Test Mode will open. Select Cell Information. You’ll see a list of cellular towers to which the phone is connected. The towers are listed in descending order of strength.

You’ll also see information about the cell towers. It will be a string of letters and numbers. Don’t worry if you don’t understand them. Believe me, the information looks like gibberish!

Now, you’ll have to give the phone some time for the signal to stabilize. So take a look at the numbers after you’ve been in test mode for about 45 seconds. Hold it in your hand when you take the measurement.

You’ll see a negative number preceded by RX. This number represents the strength of the signal you’re receiving from a specific tower. It is measured in dBm.

The closer this number is to zero, the better the signal strength. For example, anything -60 or higher is very good reception. On the other hand, -100 would be very weak reception. When you hit -106, you probably won’t be able to make calls.

As I said, the closer the RX measurement is to zero, the better. But let me put the numbers into perspective for you. An increase of 3 dBm doubles the amount of radio frequency energy reaching the phone.

This should give you a good idea of how your iPhone’s reception will fare. But it isn’t foolproof. Cellular towers often adjust their power output. So the reception can change at any time.

Give this a try, I am going to,If I can get service outside my home.

I am not happy about this….

iphone

AT&T to cut the price of the new iphone.
and
AT&T to give 200.00 subsidy for new 3G iphone.

I do not think this is right. I have a iphone and I feel cheated by AT&T.
I think if you purchased an iphone in the last year, you too should be offered something, anything !

Here is an idea AT&T….how about when the new 3G iphone comes out, offer the current clients a chance to purchase the new version, let’s say for $100.

Sounds like a good way to keep clients happy ! or we could actually sell our current phone and change carriers…..

Web Pages Attacked Every 5 Seconds

Sunday, April 27th, 2008
Attacks on webpages have increased dramatically over the past few months. According to security firm Sophos, 15,000 pages on average were attacked daily between January and March (about every 5 seconds); this contrasts to the 2007 average of 6,000. Here is something even more alarming:

About 79 percent of compromised Web pages tracked this year belong to legitimate Web sites, Sophos reported. The company noted that the Web sites of Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and even security vendors, have fallen prey to malware attacks.

They're getting closer and closer to our personal data. I hope this serves as a wake-up call to those corporations and the government. Of course, it won't.

You’re witnessing the birth of a third major computer platform: Windows, Mac OS X, iPhone.

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Before you start reading this, a word of warning: this column is about the iPhone. If you’re one of those people who are sick and tired of hearing about the iPhone, then scroll on while you still can. Then again, if you’re one of those people, you’ve got much bigger problems than this column. Maybe you’d better take six months off to explore the Serengeti.

That’s because last week, Apple announced iPhone 2.0. It’s not a new phone model (although that will be coming this year, too)—it’s new software for the existing phone. And in my considered opinion, it will be an even bigger deal than the iPhone itself.

The new software, slated for the end of June, will have two parts. First, it will tap into Microsoft Exchange, the e-mail distribution system used by hundreds of thousands of corporations. You’ll get “push” e-mail, meaning that messages appear in real time on your iPhone. And when anybody changes your calendar or address book on your computer at work, your iPhone will be automatically, wirelessly updated, wherever you happen to be.

All of this is already on the BlackBerry, which is Apple’s obvious target here. Without an actual keyboard, the iPhone won’t kill off the BlackBerry entirely (although I do like the way the on-screen keyboard forces iPhone people to be super-concise). But it will carve away a certain chunk of the BlackBerry’s market.

The big knife is Part 2 of iPhone 2.0. That’s the SDK—the Software Development Kit—which Apple has released in beta-test form. The idea here is that any programmer can now write software for the iPhone. Not illicit, hacky apps like people have been writing so far, but authorized, tested, legitimate software, much of it free, that can tap into all the features of the iPhone.
There’s even a video of Steve Jobs announcement.

Some would call this laziness. I think it is cool (no pun intended) that someone is actually still thinking in America.

Pretty cool….huh !

Honda’s cool commercial

Monday, February 11th, 2008

This sort of reminds me of the game “Mouse Trap”. From Kim Komando’s video of the day and
of course, youtube.com.

Kim’s quote about the video:

Do you remember the game Mousetrap? You have to catch another player’s mouse with an elaborately constructed trap. Well, Honda has created an amazing commercial that reminds me of this game. A gear starts rolling and sets off a chain reaction. I think there may be a little trickery here, particularly when the tires roll up the ramp. What do you think?

and now the Video:

The Gatlin Gun , todays version.

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Note that the gun is a modern version of the Gatlin gun invented during the Civil War by a Mr. Gatlin, brother of Radford Gatlin for whom Gatlinburg, Tennessee is named.
